Creighton finished out the regular season in much the same way they finished their last seven games this season. In dominant fashion.
The Bulldogs took down Laurel-Concord-Coleridge to finish the regular season on a seven-game win streak. Creighton dominated for much of the game, scoring 32 points in the first quarter alone while blanking the Bears. The Bulldogs continued their scoring onslaught, putting eight points on the board in the second quarter and 16 in each of the final two quarters before surrendering their only score of the night to take home a 72-8 victory. Now at 7-1, the Bulldogs are likely to be a high seed in the playoffs which are set to begin on Thursday. In other Knox County action Thursday night: Bloomfield took down Stuart 62-23. Wausa fell to Allen 47-20. Call today to make your appointment for the Outreach Clinics at the Avera Creighton Hospital. The number to call is 402-358-5700.

Tuesday was a big night for the Neligh-Oakdale volleyball squad. It was the final home game of the season, homecoming week, Parent's Night and pink out, all of which combined to draw a massive crowd for the Warrior's matchup with Creighton.
Unfortunately for Neligh-Oakdale, Creighton had other plans as they dropped the Warriors in three sets 25-15, 25-18, 25-22. The Warriors struggled to put points on the board thanks in part to the great defense from Creighton, led by Makayla Brockhaus's 29 digs. Additionally, the Bulldog's offense gave Neligh-Oakdale problems on the strength of their serving, including Sydney Walton's six aces. Statistics for Neligh-Oakdale were not available. The Warriors now look to rebound when they hit the road to take on Ewing Thursday. Creighton - now on a seven game winning streak - looks to keep their hot streak alive next Tuesday when they host Crofton. Since a tough week one loss to Neligh-Oakdale, the Creighton Bulldogs have stormed back with a vengeance, tearing through every team they encountered.
Friday night, that included Niobrara/Verdigre on homecoming night. The Bulldogs took down the Cougars in near-shutout fashion, 88-6. Creighton jumped out to a 50-0 lead in the first quarter before putting up 32 points in the second quarter. They scored just six points in the second half, but it didn't matter as the game was well in hand. Niobrara/Verdigre scored late in the game to end the shutout bid. Other scores from Friday night in Knox County: Santee is blanked by Riverside 75-0. On Thursday, Bloomfield used their great running game to take down North Central 68-14. Crofton takes the edge in the district race, beating Stanton 21-14. Wausa continues to struggle, losing to Wynot 62-14. "Creighton Pride" was easy to see as red, black and white filled the hallways on Tuesday at Creighton schools for Homecoming Week.
The week started with Pajama Day on Monday and then a bonfire Monday night. The school thanked the booster club and fire fights for a safe and successful bonfire. In a showdown of two of the top teams in Class D1, it was the Creighton Bulldogs who were able to come out on top over the West Holt Huskies, winning 56-14.
The Huskies actually took an early lead in the game, bringing a Creighton fumble back for a score about five minutes into the game. However, the Bulldogs didn't take long to fire back, tying the game up at six less than a minute later. Creighton added one more score in the first quarter on a short Ryan Neumann pass. That touchdown pass by Neumann was the first of four touchdown passes for the senior quarterback. He also added one touchdown on the ground. The Bulldogs then began to pull away in the second quarter on the strength of the Neumann touchdown passes and the legs of sophomore running back Bryce Zimmerer. Zimmerer helped Creighton control the ball on the ground, grinding out over 100 yards in the first half alone. The Bulldogs scored twelve points in the second to go into halftime with a commanding 26-6 lead. The second half was more of the same for the Bulldogs, with Zimmerer racking up the yards on the ground and Neumann systematically marching the Creighton offense down the field. That combination was good for 22 points for Creighton in the third quarter. The defense held the Huskies scoreless for a second straight quarter, thanks in part to a Brady Wortman intercepton and a fumble out of bounds in the end zone by West Holt quarterback Bryce Kerkman. The second team offense and defense took the field for much of the fourth quarter as both teams scored just once in the fourth. The Bulldogs now take their 2-1 record into a matchup with Hartington-Newcastle next week. Clearwater-Orchard and Creighton went the distance, going all five sets before the Bulldogs pulled out the win.
Clearwater-Orchard looked like they were going to take control early, winning the first two sets 25-21 and 25-20. From there, however, the Bulldogs took over, winning the next two sets 25-17 and 25-22 to force a deciding fifth set. In the fifth set, it was all Bulldogs as they took the match with a 15-7 win. Creighton was excellent on the defensive end, recording 91 digs as a team. Maycey Forker led the way with 21 digs, Makayla Brockhaus pulled up 19, Sydney Walton accounted for 18 digs, Bailey Zimmerer was responsible for 13 digs and Ashtyn Fritz accounted for 11 digs. Kirsten Adams and Chelsea Boelter did their part on defense as well, recording 10 and nine kills, respectively. On the offensive end, Boelter held her own at the net, recording 15 kills. The Bulldogs now must focus on undefeated Elgin Public/Pope John as they come to town on Thursday. |
