Creighton is moving on.
The Bulldogs, who have allowed more than 14 points once since a season-opening loss to Neligh-Oakdale, used their lockdown defense coupled with their high-powered offense to blow past Tri County 76-33. The Bulldogs got on the board early thanks to quarterback Ryan Neumann. Tri County quickly countered to take the lead, 7-6. However, that was the last Creighton would allow the Trojans the opportunity to lead. A second Nuemann rushing touchdown gave the Bulldogs a 12-7 lead. Neumann would next add a touchdown through the air, eventually reaching halftime accounting for five touchdowns and over 300 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs led 60-19 going into the break. In the second half, the Bulldogs continued their dominance, including an interception thanks to a Travis Tyler tipped ball. They scored just once in the third quarter and once in the fourth quarter, but the extra offense wasn't needed as they cruised to the win. Creighton's playoff run will likely continue on the road next Tuesday. They await the winner of Lourdes Central Catholic versus Howells-Dodge match up. A Plainview woman was lifeflighted after a two-vehicle accident left her trapped inside their SUV on Monday.
According to the Knox County Sheriff's Department, Evelyn Kroeger of Plainview was flown to Sioux Falls for treatment of her injuries after the Lincoln MKT she was driving collided with a 2001 Grand Am driven by Khristina Nelson of Plainview. The accident was reported at approximately 10:01 a.m. at the intersection of Hwy 59 and 538th Avenue near Creighton. According to the sheriff's Department, Nelson was southbound on 538the Ave when she failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign and collided with Kroeger's vehicle. Delford Kroeger was a passenger in the Lincoln. The two vehicles came to rest in the south ditch of Hwy 59, with the Lincoln resting on its roof. Evelyn Kroeger had to be removed using the jaws of life equipment by emergency personnel. The three occupants of the vehicles were taken to Creighton Hospital by two Creighton ambulances and a Wausa ambulance. Both Creighton and Wausa Fire Departments and Rescue Squads were at the scene. Investigation was conducted by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office with the help of the Nebraska State Patrol. It took five sets, but Creighton pull out a win Tuesday night to advance to the C2-3 district final.
The Bulldogs defeated Neligh-Oakdale 25-9, 25-8, 22-25, 22-25, 15-10. The Bulldogs rolled to another big win on Monday night as they swept Ainsworth in the C2-6 subdistrict.
Creighton topped Ainsworth 25-23, 25-18, 25-13 to advance to Tuesday night's subdistrict final against Neligh-Oakdale. The winning team will play the winner of the C2-5 subdistrict for a state tournament berth. Join the Creighton Public Library during their annual Trick or Treat on Saturday, October 29th.
The fun will start a little after 10 a.m.. Trick or Treaters will visit different local businesses for some fun and candy. Creighton football has been on an absolute tear since a season-opening loss, and nothing that Diller-Odell did was able to change that.
The Bulldogs dominated the Griffins in the opening round of the 2016 D1 State Playoffs 68-6. Creighton scored 40 points in the first quarter alone to power their way to the win. With the win, they now move on to a second round showdown with Tri County. The game will be in Creighton on Wednesday, November 2. After hitting a minor speed bump at the Lewis and Clark Tournament, Creighton still managed to take home the third place title.
After wins over Osmond and Randolph, the Bulldogs fell to Wynot to set up a showdown with Winside for third place. Fortunately for the Bulldogs, they were able to win a tight match 25-21, 25-16, 25-21. Maycey Forker led the Creighton attack, recording 10 kills. Chelsea Bolter put down nine kills of her own as well. Ashtyn Fritz and Makayla Brockhaus did their part offensively for the Bulldogs, recording three aces apiece. With the Lewis and Clark Tournament now complete, the Bulldogs await the announcement of their first round opponent at subdistricts. Creighton will start the Class D1 post season on their own field Thursday.
The 7-1 Bulldogs, who have won seven straight games, earned the second seed and will host No. 15 Diller-Odell (3-5). Garrison and Zachary Hazen both made their way to the State Cross Country Meet in Kearney Friday and both will return home proud of their performances.
The Creighton seniors competed in the field of 148 runners. Garrison finished 23rd with a time of 18:03.6 and Zachary finished 106th with a time of 19:44.8. Norfolk Catholic's Jonah Heng finished in first with a time of 16:55.1. |
