Wausa Speech Team District Champs, Send 11 To State

The Wausa Viking speech team claimed the D1-3 district title in Spencer Tuesday, March 15, qualifying 11 entries for the state meet in Kearney next Thursday.

Wausa earned its third straight district championship with 431 points and 17 of 18 entries qualifying for finals.

“I am extremely proud of the whole team,” Viking head coach Kyle Stevens said. “All of these kids have worked incredibly hard this season, and a win like this is a great reward.”

State qualifiers include:
Claire
Vanness, 1st in Informative and Serious Prose 
Luc
Bloomquist, 1st in Entertainment 
Mary Johnson, 1
st in Persuasive
Darren
Nissen, 1st in Humorous 
Aidan
Kleinschmit and Claire Wiegert, 1st in Duet 
Blake
Bloomquist, Ryan Kumm, Darren Nissen, Brice Barney, and Luc Bloomquist, 1st in OID
Allison Barney, 2
nd in Serious
Regan
Hennings and Hannah Nelson, 2nd in Duet
Ryan
Kumm, 3rd in Entertainment 
Kara
Seagren, 3rd in Informative.

Other district medalists include Tyler Story, Aidan Kleinschmit, Regan Hennings, Hannah Nelson, and Kara Seagren, 4th in OID; Ashby Nelson, 4th in Persuasive; Michaela Timmerman, 4th in Poetry; Mary Johnson, 4th in Extemporaneous; Tyler Story, 5th in Poetry; and Tom Lundberg, 5th in Extemporaneous.

The Vikings will preform next at the state speech meet in Kearney this Thursday.  “There is always a lot of great competition at state, but with 11 entries competing, I think we have a good chance to really compete as a team if we do what we need to do,” Stevens said.
