Wausa traveled to Creighton to take on the Bulldogs and were looking for their first win of the season.
With coach Terry Nelson leading the girls, the Lady Vikings got off to a slow start. Opening the second quarter, the game shifted dramatically to Wausa’s advantage. The girls held the Lady Bulldogs to just one point to take the lead 25-14 at half.
The Lady Vikings closed the game out with a final score of 64-39. Leading scorers for Wausa included Clara Schindler with 13, Ruth Johnson with 12 and Esther Nelson with 11. Creighton’s Ashtyn Fritz had 11 points followed by Jordyn Kuhl.
The varsity boys took the court finishing in a very close game. With Wausa being outsized, its team made up in speed. Through the first half, Creighton led 32-23. Wausa returned in the second half by outscoring the bulldogs 25-18. The Vikings were able to fight back to within two but fell short at final.
Scoring leaders for Creighton included Chase Largen with 19 points followed by Carson Lilly with 10.
Wausa will travel to Wakefield on December 8 while Creighton will travel to Neligh-Oakdale on December 8.
