Bloomfield hosted Class C-2 Hartington-Newcastle (Hartington) in what was going to be an uphill battle for both boys and girls teams.
The girls hit the court against the 13-2 Hartington team to kick the night off. Hartington rallied through the entire first quarter to take a 15-0 lead by the end of the quarter.
Brooklyn Eisenhauer hit a 3-pointer to put up the first points for Bloomfield. The Queen Bees were not able to score again for another four minutes until Bree Eisenhauer hit a 3-pointer of her own.
This would be Bloomfield only baskets on the half. The Wildcats would hold the lead at half with a score of 30-6.
Bloomfield returned after the half taking the opening possession but was unable to work the ball to the hoop. They would go scoreless while Hartington extended the lead, 47-6.
Returning for the fourth quarter, Michelle Wachter would run up seven points on her own while the team only allowed three. Hartington walked away with the win with a final score of 50-13.
The Boys took the quarter for the final game of the night, coming off a big win against Ewing the night before. Braden Eisenhauer struck first to take initial points. Half way through the first, Dade Davis would run another layup in to tie the game at 4-4.
Hartington rallied with six more points in the next minute and a half to take the lead. Trenton Holz returned with a three to bring the game back within reach. The wildcats again would string a couple to take the lead by seven at 8-15 with a minute left.
Eisenhauer ran another layup in and then finished the quarter with a buzzer-beater from just under half court to put Bloomfield at 13-15.
The Wildcats ran up nine more points half way through the second while allowing the Bees just four. Bloomfield finished out the second quarter with a fieldgoal by Will Fehringer and Michael Castenda. Eisenhauer would finish out the quarter with five more points as well. Bloomfield trailed at half 24-34.
The Bees returned to the court in the third neck and neck until the 5:00 mark but Hartington took control to finish the third out at 47-32.
To finish the game out, both teams had a rash of traveling calls and scoreless possessions. Bloomfield took the fourth quarter but fell short on the night, succumbing to Hartington with a final score of 50-36.
Both teams fought hard tonight, but were up against a higher class and stiffer competition. The boys fall to 3-15 on the season and the girls drop to 6-12. Both teams are looking for some momentum to climb out of the season. The Bees will travel to Lewis & Clark Tournament to be held on January 26.
