Funeral Services For Wilma Effle

Funeral services for Wilma Effle, age 91, of Verdigre, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 2, at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Verdigre.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Delores Ruzicka will officiate, with burial in Riverside Cemetery in Verdigre.

Wilma died Monday, November 28, 2016, at Avera Creighton Hospital in Creighton, Nebraska.

Wilma Irene (Kotrous) Effle, was born October 2, 1925, to John and Marie (Konopasek) Kotrous. Wilma spent her childhood in Verdigre along with her twin sister, Alma, sister, Sylvia, and brother, Alvin. She graduated from Verdigre High School in 1944. Wilma married Vernon Fredrick Effle at the Catholic Church in Verdigre on March 4, 1946. To this union five children were born: Robert, Gerald, Roger, Dennis, and Phyllis.

Wilma and Vernon farmed southwest of Verdigre before retiring from farming in 1973. In 1974, they purchased Felix’s Café in Verdigre and called it the Kozy Hut Café. They sold the café in 1984. Wilma worked many years at Misty’s, had a daycare in her home, worked at the Verdigre Pool, and later at Berta’s before her retirement. Wilma enjoyed playing cards, fishing, flowers, going to the casino, and listening to Polka music.

Wilma is survived by four children, Robert Effle of Racine, Wisconsin, Gary (Donna) Effle of Verdigre, Nebraska, Roger (Cindy) Effle of rural Orchard, and Phyllis Douglas of Verdigre; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; son, Dennis; parents, John and Marie; sisters, Sylvia Konopasek and Alma Bartos; brother, Alvin Kotrous; an infant brother; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and niece and great-nephew.
