Raymond Frank Paustian was born on November 14, 1921, to William and Caroline (Koenig) Paustian. Ray grew up on the family farm near Bloomfield, Nebraska, and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1939. He married Veronica Lile on June 5, 1955. After their marriage, they farmed and raised their family four miles east and a mile and a half south of Bloomfield. They were members of the Country Twisters square dance club for six years, and he was a lifetime member of the Bloomfield Methodist Church. Ray was very proud of the Aksarben Pioneer Farm award the family received, continuing the tradition from his dad and grandfather of the farm being in the Paustian name for 100 years. He continued to enjoy working on his farm part-time and as summer help with other farmers after moving to town in January 1984. After Ray’s retirement, he and Veronica were able to continue to spend time together, traveling, taking pictures, and enjoying their family. They celebrated their Golden Anniversary in June 2005 before she passed away that winter. In 2010 after a fall in his home, Ray moved to the Heritage of Bel-Air care facility in Norfolk and was a resident there until the time of his death. Ray had been in good health until this last weekend, enjoying family visits and milestones.
Ray was a loving husband, a one of a kind dad, and an awesome grandpa that gave really good hugs. Ray and Veronica were blessed with seven daughters, Lynn Laible of Norfolk, Roberta Gazaway of Madison, Wisconsin, Helen Paustian-Hale of St. Albans, England, Carolyn Haley of Omaha, Valerie Haase of Elkhorn, Mary Williams of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Julie Paustian of Omaha. They enjoyed their twelve grandchildren: Calvin, Carolyn, Alycia, Steven, Jaymes, Lauryl, Marcus, Caroline, Austin, Alan II, Emily, and Kimberly; five great-grandchildren, Abby, Connor, Kaleb, Jordan, and Natalie; and sons-in-law, Ted, John, and Andy. He is also survived by a sister, Corrine Eskelsen, Sartell, Minnesota, and many other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Veronica; parents, William and Caroline Paustian; and siblings, Lloyd Paustian, Inez Paustian, and Louise Heath.
