Funeral Services For Mary Ebel of Creighton

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Ebel, age 91, of Creighton, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017, at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton. Reverend Jeremy Hans will be Celebrant, with burial in St. Ludger Catholic Cemetery in Creighton.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton, with a 7:30 p.m. Wake Service.

Mary died Sunday, September, 10, 2017, at Avera Creighton Care Centre.

Mary G. Ebel, daughter of Ottie and Hannah (Muller) Halverson, was born on May 10, 1926, on the family farm north of Winnetoon. She attended District #31 school and graduated from St. Ludger Academy in 1944. Mary attended classes that summer at Wayne State College in order to become a teacher. She taught at Country Schools north Creighton and her old school, District #31, north of Winnetoon.

On April 19, 1949, she was married to Francis J. Ebel at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton. Five sons were born to them. They lived on a farm on the southwest edge of Creighton their entire married life. Mary worked right alongside Francis helping with the dairy herd and raising chickens, a large garden, and their family.

She was a member of St. Ludger Catholic Church where she taught CCD for several years and was a very active member of its Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was also a member of the We Help You card club.

She loved her family and was an excellent cook and baker. Her specialties were pies and angel food cakes. 

Mary died on Sunday, September 10, 2017, at Avera Creighton Care Centre.

She is survived by her sons, Henry of Verdigre, Gerald and Peg of Winnetoon, Elmer and LaDonna of Creighton, Robert of Winnetoon, and Philip and Lori of Creighton; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a sister, Ida Charles of Scottsdale, AZ; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Hemenway, Pauline and Cliff Bethune, and Georgia Ebel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2006; a daughter in law, Jackie; and brothers-in-law, Roy Charles, Victor and Laura Ebel, Dennis and Kathleen Ebel, Norbert Ebel, and Dennis Hemenway.
