Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.

Marvin died Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Avera Creighton Care Centre.

Marvin R. Block, son of Herman A. and Georgia (Hrbek) Block, was born February 15, 1933. He was born on the family farm with the aid of Dr. Gordon Fletcher. The farm was one and a half miles straight north of Walnut, Nebraska, which had a general store and post office until the mid-fifties. He was the fourth living child of his parents. Marvin attended District 63 School, never missing a day. He was baptized, and later confirmed in 1948, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Venus, Nebraska. He had a strong faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior.

In Marv’s young adult life, he learned to fly, and had five airplanes during his lifetime. He raised hogs initially, and in 1962, he started raising cattle.

Marvin married Kathleen Krause on December 29, 1969, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Venus. They lived in the hills of Walnut the first years of their marriage. She died in January of 1980, from complications of multiple sclerosis. After Kathy died, Marvin joined and was active in Singles in Agriculture for several years.

In September of 1990, Marvin married MaryAnne Elder at the Little Brown Church near Nashua, Iowa. They ranched west of Creighton, Nebraska a number of years, before moving into Creighton.

Marvin was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Orchard, Nebraska. He taught Sunday School for one year. For 50 years, he square danced, and knew people from all over Nebraska. Marvin enjoyed traveling, visiting 47 states, plus Australia and New Zealand. He harvested walnut trees for 38 winters. Marvin loved the Lord. He greatly enjoyed ranching and had cattle until 2012. Marv also enjoyed gardening. He loved people and to see people laugh. Marvin enjoyed telling funny true stories.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 25 years, MaryAnne of Creighton, Nebraska; one sister, Arlene Liska of Verdigre, Nebraska; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by infant siblings, Frank and Lydia; his parents; wife, Kathy; brother, Ralph; and his sister, Beatrice Milne of Arizona.
