Funeral services for Lois Cox, age 86, of Creighton, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Christ Lutheran Church in Bazile Mills, Nebraska. Reverend Terry Huber will officiate, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery in Plainview, Nebraska.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton is in charge of arrangements.

Lois died Monday, January 16, 2017, at Avera Creighton Care Centre.

Lois June Cox was born May 25, 1930, to Fred and Hertha (Hinzmann) Horstmann at Winnetoon, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Creighton, Nebraska. Lois attended school through the eighth grade at District 14. She married William Cox on July 19, 1947, at Christ Lutheran parsonage at rural Creighton. To this union three sons were born: David William, Richard Norman, and Kevin Frederick.

During their married years, Lois and Bill lived in Plainview, Nebraska and Creighton. During this time, she worked at Lundberg Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide. Lois worked at Creighton Public Schools for 39 years, first as a cook and later as head cook. She was well known for her lover’s knots and her chef salads. Lois took over the Creighton Sale Barn Café, where people always requested her recipe for crème pies. She worked there for 27 years.  Lois retired in 2006. She enjoyed horses, ceramics, bowling, gambling, gardening and cooking.

Lois entered Creighton Care Centre in 2015, following her husband’s illness and death. The staff there became her family and she enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds from her window.

Lois is survived by her grandchildren, Cody Cox, Casey Cox, Heather Findel, Buffy Johnson, and Bill Cox; great-granddaughters, Kaelin and Kendall Johnson; and siblings, Cleone Smith and Roger Horstmann.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons; and brothers, Loren, Norman, and infant Lawrence; and sister, Lela Mae Howard.
