Funeral Services For Kenneth Carlson

Memorial services for Kenneth Carlson, age 83, of Wausa, Nebraska, will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 20, 2015, at Evangelical Covenant Church in Wausa, Nebraska. Pastor Matt Norlen will officiate with burial at a later date. 

Military Honors will be conducted by V.F.W. Post #5824 of Wausa, Nebraska and United States Navy Honor Guard.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Brockhaus Funeral Home of Wausa is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth died Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Wausa, Nebraska.

Kenneth Eugene Carlson was born on September 7, 1931, on a farm south of McLean, Nebraska, the fourth child of Albin and Rose Carlson. Kenneth attended Sunny Side country school and McLean High School graduating in 1948.

Following graduation, Kenneth worked on various farms in the area and also did some construction work. He enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1951, and served four years during the Korean Conflict aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Yorktown. After being discharged, Kenneth returned to northeast Nebraska and worked as an over the road truck driver until 1960 when he went to work as an auto mechanic at Long’s Auto Repair in Norfolk. In 1967, Kenneth worked for one year as Service Manager at Norfolk Dodge. Then in 1968, he and his brother, Donald, built Carlson Automotive Service in Wausa, Nebraska where Kenneth worked for 39 years until his retirement in 2007. 

On June 10, 1956, Kenneth was united in marriage to Marilyn Shallberg at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wausa, Nebraska. To this union were born five children: Laddy Wade, Bradley James, Brian Jon, Trudy Kay and Lance Christian.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Marilyn Carlson of Wausa; children and spouses, Laddy Wade and Beth of Winter Springs, Florida, Bradley and Pamela of Norfolk, Trudy and Garreth Zalud of Vermillion, South Dakota, and Lance and Melanie of Randolph; grandchildren, Jonathan, Joseph, Brandon, Tiffany, Margaret, Sophia and Max Carlson, Julie Carlson Phillips, Bethany Carlson Denumastier, Tabitha Carlson Casey, Stephanie Carlson Grone, Amanda Zalud and Kristina Zalud; brothers and spouses, Dale and Mary Lou Carlson, Donald and Yvonne Carlson, sisters and spouses, Gladys and Donald Erickson, Rosalyn and Pat Lamphear, brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Linda Shallberg, Ardis Shallberg, Carole and Douglas Baker, Sharolyn and Timothy Knight; as well as many nephews, nieces, and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Brian; his parents; one brother, Carl; one sister, Lois Becker; niece, Roxanne Carlson; and nephew, Douglas Shallberg.
