Funeral Services For Joyce Criffield

Memorial services for Joyce Criffield, age 86, of Verdigre, Nebraska, formerly of Hazard, Nebraska, will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015, at United Methodist Church in Hazard. Reverend Scott Evans will officiate, with burial in Hazard Cemetery at a later date.

Brockhaus Funeral Home in Verdigre and Rasmussens Mortuary in Ravenna, Nebraska are in charge of arrangements.   

Joyce died Sunday, December 6, 2015, at Avera Creighton Hospital in Creighton, Nebraska.  

Evelyn Joyce Criffield, daughter of Ira and Lucile (Asher) Criffield, was born June 23, 1929, at Hazard, Nebraska. Joyce attended Hazard and Litchfield Schools. She was blessed with a daughter, Kaylene, in 1954. Joyce grew up in the Hazard/Litchfield area on a ranch as an only child. She ranched west of Hazard her entire life. Joyce enjoyed caring for numerous horses on her father’s ranch. She became a caregiver for many homebound residents in the area.   

Joyce was a member of United Methodist Church in Hazard. She was also a member of Rebekah Lodge, receiving the declaration of chivalry. Joyce loved to dance and attending all of her grandson’s activities, including sports, FFA, and 4H.   

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Kaylene (Chad) Swisher of Verdigre, Nebraska; and grandsons, Kiley Ira (Jennifer) Hammond and Cody Thomas Hunt all of Verdigre.   

She was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Jimmy Blair.
