Funeral services for Emil Marshall, age 89, of Verdigre, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 12, 2017, at Niobrara Lutheran Church in Niobrara, Nebraska. Pastor Martha Atkins will officiate, with burial in L’Eau Qui Court Cemetery in Niobrara.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Verdigre.
Emil died Monday, August 7, 2017, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, South Dakota.
Emil Marshall, son of Emmon L. Marshall and Bertha (Wirth) Marshall, was born August 14, 1927, at Verdel, Nebraska. He lived and attended country school in the Pischelville area and then attended and graduated from Verdigre High School. Emil was married to Irene Minarik on June 15, 1949, in the Niobrara Evangelical Lutheran Church. Three sons were born to them: Gary, Larry, and Ronald.
After marrying Irene, they moved from the Pischelville area to a farm they purchased west of Niobrara. They farmed and continued to enjoy life on the farm after retirement until Irene entered Alpine Village in Verdigre in March 2015. Emil enjoyed gardening and life in the country until he left the farm to live in Alpine Village Retirement Center in January 2016.
Emil was a member of Niobrara Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Marshall; son and spouse, Gary and Laura Marshall on Niobrara; son and spouse, Larry and Virginia Marshall of Pleasanton, Texas; daughter-in-law, Karen Marshall of Stanton, Nebraska; sister and spouse, Evelyn and Jim Becker of Center, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Marshall; daughter-in-law, Joan Marshall; sister, Alice Ruzicka; and brother, Don Marshall.
