Funeral Services Announced For Evelyn Johnson

Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn E. Johnson, age 96 of Bloomfield, Nebraska, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2014, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Bloomfield. Reverend Michael Schmitz will be Celebrant, with burial in the Bloomfield City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, with a 7:00 p.m. Wake Service.

Brockhaus Funeral Home of Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn died Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Center in Bloomfield.

Evelyn Emma (Thelen) Johnson, daughter of Peter and Anna (Kessler) Thelen, was born March 18, 1918 at Creighton, Nebraska. Evelyn attended rural school District #66, and then attended St. Andrew’s Parochial School in Bloomfield, Nebraska. On September 26, 1940, she was married to Joy Everett Johnson at the St. Andrew’s Catholic Rectory. The couple was blessed with six children: Dean, Marveen, Sharlene, Gary, Milton, and Connie.

Evelyn enjoyed traveling, gardening, dancing, baking, cooking meals for her family, and especially spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Evelyn was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Bloomfield, was a member of the St. Andrew’s Altar Society, and several card clubs. She died Monday, June 23, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society in Bloomfield, attaining the age of 96 years, three months, and 15 days.

Evelyn is survived by the following, Dean (Sharon) Johnson of Norfolk, Nebraska, Marveen (Jerry) Fredrickson of Carroll, Nebraska, Sharlene (Ron) Stapelman of Belden, Nebraska, Gary (Caroline) Johnson of West Point, Nebraska, Eileen (Mrs. Milton) Johnson of Plainview, Nebraska, and Connie (Brad) Eckmann; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Thelen of Amherst, Massachusetts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joy E. Johnson; son, Milton Johnson; and a granddaughter, Jill Johnson.
