Santee welcomed a new youth center in late July. In February, renovations started and the building was turned into the Warrior Lodge.
The Warrior Lodge is a new center similar to a boys’ and girls’ club and includes a full court basketball court where children can go to play. The center also will include programs for bully prevention and the prevention of various types of alcohol, drugs and tobacco as well as supply mental help with counseling programs.
“We also offer youth sports, girls volleyball and basketball and boys football and basketball,” Deon Lapointe said.
The center is open Sunday through Friday and will be open 7 days a week when school starts. Children have access to the center from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
According to him, all students must attend school and have good grades to attend the center.
“The center will have a positive impact, due to the fact that we have school and behavior as a focus,” Lapointe said.
There is also a girls only night every Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. where young girls experience teachings on various topics and end the night by learning to make their own meals.
Girls night is very popular among the girls and attendance has been high.
