The Niobrara-Verdigre girls and Creighton boys were victorious Saturday night in varsity action in Niobrara.

In the first game, the Lady Cougars were defeated the Lady Bulldogs by a score of 67-43.  The game was close through the first half, with NV leading 23-20 at the break.  The Lady Cougars erupted for 27 third quarter points, to take a 50-32 lead into the final quarter. The Lady Bulldogs could pull no closer than 15 in the last quarter, and were outscored 17-10.

Emily Knust for NV led all scorers with 20 pts.  Brittany Eisenhauer added 18 for the Cougars, along with Ashley Guenther with 7, Dani Beaudette and Jaylene Greeley each with 6, Shania RedOwl 4, Jace Forker 3, Alisa Hrbek 2, and Megan Cook with 1 point. NV improves to 4-11 with the win.

Leading the way for Creighton was Sydney Walton with 19.  Cassidy Moeller had 15, Chelsey Boelter 5, Kasey Kuhl 2, and Ashtyn Fritz 1. Creighton falls to 1-15 after the loss.

The boys matchup was a nail biter, with Creighton winning 58-53.  The Bulldogs led 15-10 after one quarter and the Cougars could never make up that deficit.  Each team scored 12 in the second quarter making the score at the break 27-22.  In a high scoring third quarter, the Cougars outscored their opponents 24-21.  Defenses were stingy at the end though, and Creighton sealed the win by outscoring NV 10-7 in the final stanza.

Cade Kalkowski led NV with 19 points.  Brady Pike added 11, Cauy Drobny and Ricky Bickerstaff each had 6, Christian Swalley added 5, Nate Sandoz had 4, and Marcelis Thomas chipped in 2. NV drops to 11-4 after the loss.
