A Niobrara woman died after falling into the Missouri River near Running Water on Saturday. Two others were injured after trying to rescue her, according to officials.
Veronica Jo Keeble, 23 of Niobrara, fell into the water while she and four others were down near the river by Standing Bear Memorial Bridge. At least two people then jumped into the river in an attempt to save her, officials said
Keeble reportedly died at the scene while two individuals were transported to a Sioux Falls hospital.
Authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor.
Responding to the rescue were the Bon Homme County Sheriff's Office; Knox County Sheriff's Office; Santee Sioux Tribe Police; Yankton Search and Rescue; South Dakota Game, Fish, & Parks; and Springfield Police and Rescue.
