First Annual Ultimate Warriorz Contest Today In Santee

Nine teams competed in the 1st Annual Ultimate Warriorz contest on Saturday on the softball field in Santee.  The event was sponsored by the Recruitment Team of Nebraska Indian Community College and the Sacred Horse Society.  
Before the contest began, Jim Hallum and Germain Tremmel discussed the different events and how they are bringing back the old cultural ways.  
The different events and what they signify include:

• Bareback riding - going out and looking for a job
• Shooting a bow and arrow -  making money at your job
• Obstacle course carrying "deer"- avoiding temptations that would deter them from their family
• Teepee building - working with your partner to build a home
• Singing love song - keeping harmony in the home

One of the goals of the day was to promote family, culture, and healthy lifestyles.
