13 Teams Participate In Mark Mullins Fishing Tournament

Thirteen teams braved a rainy start to the 4th annual Mark Mullins Memorial Fishing Tournament on Saturday.

The day ended with sunshine and fish caught at Verdel Landing/Blue Moon Resort near Niobrara. 

An avid hunter and fisherman, proceeds from the tournament go toward scholarships in Mark Mullins' name to Northeast Community College, where Mullins received his degree in auto repair. 

Mullins, who ran 2M Auto in Brunswick, died in 2010 after a short illness, leaving behind a young family. Among the winners at Saturday's tournament was his oldest son, Collin, who took third in the walleye division with a nearly 2 1/2 pound catch.

The team of Brandon Johansen and Kevin Miller was the first back with all three species - walleye, bass and catfish. 

Winners (registered teams) for top catches in each category are listed below.

Walleye: 1. Roland Young & Doug Forbes, 2. Brock Belik & Spencer Strope; 3. Greg Mullins, Collin Mullins & Jeremie Johnson. 

Bass: 1. Bryan Bitner, 2. Carrie Pitzer, Wade Pitzer, Isabelle Pitzer, Shelby Pitzer; 3. Brock Belik & Spencer Strope. 

Catfish: 1. Brandon Johansen & Kevin Miller; 2. Chris Williby & Anthony Williby; 3. Cam Stueckrath & Deb Stueckrath.
