Repeat: Crofton Wins 6th State Championship In 12 Years

Crofton repeated as Class C state champions on Saturday, winning the Warriors sixth state title in the last 12 years.

Crofton kicked off the state meet with a gold medal in the 3200-meter relay and continued to dominate several events, including the shot put and 3200- and 1600-meter runs. 

The Warriors won the team title with 71 points - 27 more than runner-up Lincoln Lutheran.

Senior Allison Arens won the 1600-meter state championship while freshman Haley Arens wasn't far behind, finishing third. Allison ran the mile in 5:16.6 while Haley's time was 5:21.42. 

In the shot put, senior Maria Wortmann was runner-up with a toss of 42-9.75. Sophomore Monica Arens was third with her throw of 41-10.75. 

Maria Wortmann finished second in the discus with a toss of 134-6. She was edged by McKenna Rezny of Wilber-Clatonia with a throw of 138-2. Monica Arens finished 13th at 106-4.

In the 3200, Haley and Allison Arens finished third and fourth, respectively. Haley ran an 11:38.50 while Allison ran 11:38.94.

In the 800, senior Quinn Wragge was state runner-up with a time of 2:20.38 while sophomore Kelsey Sanger was ninth in 2:26.22.

The Warriors' 4x800 team won the event in 9:37.93. Team members are Kelsey Sanger, Allison Arens, Monica Arens and Quinn Wragge.

The 4x400 team finished fifth in 4:06.49. Team members were Maria Wortmann, Allison Arens, Kelsey Sanger and Quinn Wragge.
