Crofton Girls, Creighton Boys Earn Runner-Up At Districts

Thirteen more Knox County Athletes are headed to state.

Creighton and Crofton participated in the C-8 District track meet in Ponca on Thursday. Both schools had a strong showing in both the team and individual races.

For the girls, Crofton used a dominant perfomance in the relay and middle distance races to score 128 team points, good for a runner-up finish. The Warriors were lead by Haley and Monica Arens as both qualified for the state meet in four different events. The team also sent both Kelsey and Josie Sanger to state in three events, while Jessica Lange and Chelsea Wortmann both qualified for state as well. 

The Crofton boys scored 61 points, good for fifth in the standings. Kaleb Johnson led the way for the Warriors with a second place finish in the shot put. 

The Creighton boys came up short of a district championship by just two points, finishing second with 103 points. The Bulldogs earned two gold medals, with Zac Hazen winning the triple jump and Noah Lilly winning the high jump. Hazen and Lilly both earned a ticket to Omaha in a second event as well, with Hazen taking second in the 100 meter dash and Lilly taking second in the pole vault.

The Bulldog girls ended the day with 20.5 points, good for eighth place in the team standings. Kaitlyn Sukup was the lone state qualifier for the girls team, earning the top mark in the pole vault at 8'8".

At state Friday May 20th, Creighton will have six competitors while Crofton sends seven. The event will be held at Omaha Burke High School.
