Zimmerer Wins Championship

Creighton had six wrestlers that made it to State Wrestling. On Thursday, February 19, they traveled down to Omaha to compete.

As a team, Creighton’s wrestlers received 71 points and place 4th out of 68 teams in Class D. Four wrestlers brought home medals, including Garret Zimmerer, who was the Class D State Champion.

Garret Zimmerer, a junior, won his way to the championship at 120 pounds. It was the third time he'd been to state.

Senior Austyn Larsen finished off his high school wrestling career with a fourth place finish at the state tournament. After a loss in the quarterfinals, Larsen wrestled back through three rounds in the 285-pound consolation-rounds for the medal.

Junior Ean Stacken, won two consolation-round bouts after a loss in the opening round. He contributed 6 team points.

Brothers Connor and Zachary Hazen, both sophomores, won fifth-place medals. After a loss in the 126- pound semifinals, Connor climbed through the consolation brackets to reach the medal round. Zachary lost his quarterfinal match, but wrestled his way back to the medal rounds at 126 pounds.

Sophomore Kurt Wortman was eliminated after his second loss, in the quarterfinals Friday morning.
