Services Pending For Woman Killed In Boating Accident

Funeral services are pending at Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton for Carolyn Neyes, who was killed Monday in a boating accident below Gavins Point Dam in Cedar County.

According to a press release from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commissions, two boats collided at approximately 9:55 a.m. Monday, and Neyes was a passenger in one of the boats. She was transported to Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, S.D., where she was pronounced dead.

Carolyn Ann Neyens, daughter of Dale and Anne (Vakoc) Carlson, was born November 7, 1946, at Bloomfield, Nebraska. Carolyn attended District 121 and graduated from Creighton Public Schools. On February 19, 1966, she was united in marriage to Robert J. Neyens at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Verdigre, Nebraska. Two children were born to them: Anita and Robert T. 

Carolyn lived on a farm near Winnetoon, Nebraska until she and Bob moved to Creighton, Nebraska in 2009. She worked as a nurse’s aide and then was the Director of Medical Records at Lundberg Memorial Hospital/Creighton Area Health Services for 45 years. Carolyn was a member of St. Ludger Catholic Church and was involved in the Altar Society, PEO, and Parish Council at her church.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Robert Neyens of Creighton, Nebraska; daughter, Anita (Jim) Mathine of Butte, Nebraska; son, Robert T. (Shani) of Overland Park, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Ben Mathine, Scott Mathine, Austin Neyens, Sean Neyens, Jenny Staman, Becky Mathine, and Sara Neyens; three great-grandchildren, Bretton and Finley Staman, and Beckett Mathine; sister and brother-in-law, Diana (Duane) Carlson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant brother, Dennis Dale Carlson.
