Summer is here and the area pools are open and busier than ever.
But one local pool is offering a fitness class that is literally, making waves with Aqua Zumba which combines a dance workout and a water workout.
Last summer, Aqua Zumba with Ashley Brookhouser had around 4-8 participants.
This summer, she is expecting more people to attend and Brookhouser added an evening class in hopes that it works with more peoples schedule.
“Its just a really good opportunity for people to get some exercise in if they enjoy the pool," Brookhouser explained. "If they are afraid of swimming they don’t put their head underwater and they don’t have to take their feet off the ground if they don’t want to.”
Brookhouser said that the workout is designed for the participants to workout at whatever pace they want.
“Usually I start at more of a basic level, and then throughout the song, we increase in intensity so that if the participants are ok with the higher intensity than they can try it. But if they don’t feel comfortable, than they can just stay at that beginner level.”
She encourages everyone to try the first class at no cost to see if it works for you.
Zumba with Ashley is offered in O’Neill, Laurel, Wayne and Creighton.
The classes in Creighton are Tuesdays at 12:05 and Thursdays at 8:15 pm.
