Maddie Doer, a student at Creighton Community Schools, remains in contention for the short go-round of the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo.
Doerr, competing in goat tying, finished in 9.46 seconds on Tuesday to place eighth in her performance. Her time puts her 24th after the first round.
Taylor Wharton of Mineral Wells, Texas, leads all competitors with a time of 7.43 seconds.
Doerr will compete again on Thursday evening. The top 20 individuals will move on to the short go-round.
The NHSFR, held July 13-19, features the top rodeo athletes in the U.S., Canada and Australia.
She is the daughter of Eric and Monica Doerr of Creighton.
