Erik and Cathy Burns purchased the West-Hodson Lumber Co. just in time for the busiest season for the lumber industry but he is sure that business at the new Burn’s Lumber will start to slow down.

After managing the lumberyard for five years, Erik Burns didn’t think too much about buying it from the previous owner Kelly and Luella Godson and MaryLou West.

“It was a good time in both our lives so we both thought that we were ready to start selling and buying or to look into it and he was ready to sell,” Burns said.  “It was just timing really.”

He thinks that this change in ownership will help things stay in Creighton and help the community out more than before.

After living in Lincoln and Sioux City, Erik and Cathy Burns decided that it was time to make their home back in Creighton.

Since moving back in 2002, they have enjoying the small town life and look forward to this new adventure with their children.

“It is kind of a long term investment that hopefully one day, one of the two will want it.”

The community seems to be welcoming the idea that the lumber store is in new hands.

“We have seen a lot of community support already since we have switched over in two weeks, a lot of congratulations and stuff,” Burns explained. “We are very grateful.”

Burns says that he is going to keep the business running the same with just a slight change in the inventory.
