Hazen Brothers Advance To Semifinals; Bulldogs Sitting 7th

The Bulldogs are sending two brothers into the state wrestling semifinals on Friday night. Connor and Zac Hazen both won their semifinal matches on Thursday to guarantee themselves medals.

At 113 pounds, Connor pinned Austin Anderson of Hay Springs in 1:37 and then earned a 16-5 major decision over Tate Phillips of Burwell. He'll face Trevor Nelson of Crawford in the semifinal.

Zac had a pair of wins by tech fall on Thursday. He pinned Sean Mann of Winside in 3:41 before pinning William White of Sutherland in 5:45. He'll wrestle Tyler Pawloski of Pleasanton.

Derek Wortman also wrestled in the quarterfinals for Creighton. At 138 pounds, he was pinned by Brody Lewis of Franklin in 1:06. In the first round, Wortman earned an 8-4 decision over Kiffen Cook of Perkins County.  

Bryce Zimmerer (138 pounds) lost a tough match in the quarterfinals against Jaydon Elge of Nebraska Christian with a pin in 1:43. Zimmerer earned a 9-3 decision over Riley Nichols of Elm Creek in the opening round.

In the first round, Levi Stacken (170 pounds) lost in sudden victory against Darren Leibhart of Mullen.  At 106 pounds, Cody Hanvey lost a tough 15-9 decision against Teven Marshall of Mullen.

As a team, the Bulldogs are seventh place after the first two rounds.
