Creighton came up just a couple of runs short of claiming the Class C Junior American Legion state championship on Wednesday night.
Playing on its home field, Creighton was shut out by Louisville/Weeping Water 2-0 in the championship nightcap. Louisville/Weeping Water, who repeated as state champion, defeated Battle Creek 4-0 in the 5 p.m. game to earn a chance at Creighton.
Louisville/Weeping Water scored an unearned run in the third inning and scored another run in the sixth to secure the win.
Frank Novotny earned the win, and Ryan Neumann took the loss from the mound. Creighton finished with two hits and on error while Louisville/Weeping Water had three hits and one error.
