It took two extra innings for Hebron to defeat Creighton in the second round of the Class C Senior American Legion Tournament on Sunday night.
Creighton dropped a 3-2 decision in nine innings and will play Pender at 5 p.m. Monday in the loser's bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
Tied at 2-2 after seven innings, it took the host nine innings to pull ahead of Creighton for the first time. Hebron loaded the bases with no outs when Howard Reed hit a grounder to short stop to score the winning run.
Tight throughout the game, Creighton took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning but stranded two runners and missed an opportunity to build on the lead. Hebron fought back in the fifth to knot the score at 2-all, scoring two runs on three hits.
With a runner on third in the sixth inning, Creighton had a chance to pull ahead but ended the fourth inning without a run. Hebron went three up and three down, struggling to gain any momentum.
Neither team managed to break the tie, sending the game into extra innings after one hour and 20 minutes of action.
