Creighton continues with its downtown revitalization. Upon receiving a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Creighton has been making progress by putting up new signage, facades and windows.
Twelve businesses have put up new signs including Big Red Bottle Shop and A Special Place Floral and Gift Shop. Thirty one business have been approved for improvements with roughly $100,000 paid out so far.
Business wishing to do improvements will receive 75-25 funding up to $25,000 and a 50-50 up to $50,000. This is an excellent way to supplement the costs to update a business owner's store front. Businesses are required to obtain two quotes for the requested work. Once bids have been received, "they can choose to use either but would need to pay the amount over the lower quote," Economic Development Direct Kylee Wilmes said.
The community has until December 2018 to complete its projects under the CDBG.
