The Knox County Rodeo Association held its 3rd annual Bloomfield Buck-out Bull Riding event over the past weekend. Riders from across the state, Montana, Kansas and Oregon participate in the event.

With 30 top-notch riders competing for the honors, the Harm and Tulleys Center in Bloomfield had an easy turnout. The event kicked off with the Cowboy’s Prayer followed by a moment of silence for Justin Cunningham.

Prior to the start of bull riding, the calcutta took place to auction off the riders.

Bull riding got underway with the long round providing each rider his turn at qualifying for the top spot. Six riders were successful in qualfiying with eight seconds on the bull. Scores are based on the difficulty of the bull’s movements and how well the rider is in control.

Following the long round, a chicken catch was held for the kids. Curtis Beckman provided the chickens for the event.

The riders chose their bull and headed into the short round. Of the six qualifiers, just two riders had qualifying times; Dylan Madsen of Presho, SD and Jake Lockwood or Volborg, MT. Thier rides were enough to take first and second, respectively. Garret Wickett of Battle Creek took third followed by Conner Halverson of Gordon in fourth.

Proceeds from the event go towards the High School Rodeo that is held each August, scholarships for the kids and various other community activities. For those that are interested in becoming a part of the Knox County Rodeo Association, contact Suzanne Cunningham at [email protected].
The Knox County Rodeo Association would like to thank its sponsors, those that help put on the event and most of all, the fans as it is greatly appreciated.
