A semi hauling nearly 40 head of cattle was involved in an accident Sunday afternoon north of Elgin on Highway 14.
According to law enforcement, the front right tire of the truck slipped off the highway. With the ground being soft due to a recent blizzard, the cattle shifted up front and forced the trailer into the ditch as the driver attempted to correct.
The driver was driving a truck from Mark Miller LLC in Bloomfield and was not injured in the accident. The Elgin Fire Department and other volunteers assisted with freeing the cattle from the trailer. The Antelope County Sheriff's Department, Neligh Police Department, Nebraska Department of Transportation and Nebraska State Patrol all responded to the scene.
The accident is being investigated by the Antelope County Sheriff's Department.
