On March 29, the City Council held a special meeting in which the council intended to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Roger Palu.

During the meeting, discussion on the city council seat vacancy was held due to the resignation of Roger Palu. Mayor Schroeder announced his appointment of Scott Ober to serve the remainder of the term, which ends December 2020.

Although Ober is a newcomer to the city council board, he has been involved with several councils in the past. Ober has sat on the boards of the FFA Alumni, Airport Authority and various other boards such as the church groups.

Ober said he is “there to fill the vacancy on the board and to make sure the city runs as smoothly as it can. That’s just how it has to work.”

“There needs to be someone there that has some business experience, it just helps a bunch,” he continued.

While it is early, Ober says that he intends on serving on the board after this term is completed.

Ober has grown up in Bloomfield since 1975 with his father working for John Deere while his grandparents had always lived in Bloomfield.

The board is now comprised of Steve Barney, Ray Lush, Brad Eckman and Scott Ober along with the mayor, Phil Schroeder. Palu had served on the board for eight years.
