Garry and Sharon Young are celebrating 50 years as business owners in Bloomfield.
Garry’s Farm Service Inc. began in March of 1966 when Garry Young was asked if he would be interested in starting a Purina store in Bloomfield.
Garry and Sharon then moved to Bloomfield to start the business that was located between Cordes Implement and the Phillips 66 station, which was just east of current Roger’s Yamaha store.
Garry’s first load of bags was to be delivered on March 2nd, but didn’t arrive until March 4th due to a snowstorm.
The new Garry’s Farm Service mill was completed in October 1966 at its current location East of Bloomfield.
Garry built a 70 head hog demonstration barn shortly after the mill was completed.
Garry’s offered custom grinding and mixing, bulk and bag delivery, livestock spraying as well as cattle weighing.
Many grain bins were added along the way as well as other improvements, with an additional leg and overhead bin feed storage with a capacity of 240 tons.
In 1980, a computer system was put into place that was designed by Roger Carpenter.
In the late 90’s Garry’s added a new 80 X 130’ warehouse across the road which was added on to a few years later.
Garry and some local hog producers got together and built Northview, a 1250 sow production unit where about 30,000 head of pigs are produced yearly and are taken home and raised by local producers.
Garry then created Young’s Pork as a business for hog production needs.
Based on records found, Garry has raised 380,000 hogs.
They have produced over 600,000 tons or 1,200,000,000 lbs through the mill.
Young's currently employ 5 full-time and 4 part-time employees.

Garry and Sharon have been great advocate for the small community and have supported many causes over the years. Garry was a charter member pf the Bloomfield Ruritan Club and Sharon a member of P.EO. Club, and both are active members of the Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
Garry and Sharon have 3 children, Bryan and Debbie Young in Bloomfield, Brad and Jeanne Young in Wausa, and Staci and Dave Kleinschmit in Wausa. They have 19 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
