Bloomfield/Niobrara-Verdigre Split Varsity Games Saturday

In an all-Knox-County basketball match-up Saturday night, Bloomfield and Niobrara-Verdigre split the varsity contests.

The Bloomfield Queen Bees handled the Lady Cougars, winning the first contest 74 to 30.  The score at half had the Bees ahead by only 12, but they exploded for 23 third-quarter points and held N-V to just 6 points.  

Scorers for Bloomfield were led by Brittany Kerbel with 26 points and Sarah Castaneda with 24. Amber Bruegman had 8, Karley Jensen had six, Renee Kauth chipped in 4, Leah Poppe had 3,Emma Fiedler had two, and Carolyn Nagengast added 1 to round out scoring for the Queen Bees.

For the Lady Cougars, Danielle Beaudette and Emily Knust each scored 10 points, Brittany Eisenhauer added 5, Ashley Guenther had 5, and Darlene Kitto added 1.  

In the late contest, the Cougar boys controlled the game from the opening tip, taking a 21-7 lead after the first quarter.  They continued in the second quarter, taking a 44-24 lead into halftime.  The Bees gained a few points in the third, but were still down 58-40.  The NV Cougars pulled away for good in the fourth, winning the game 77-54.

Leading the way for NV was Ricky Bickerstaff with 19 pts.  Christian Swalley added 16,Cade Kalkowski had 11, and Cauy Drobny had 9.  Rounding out the scorers for the Cougars were Marcelis Thomas   and Jace Fritz with 6 each, Dillon Ives with 5, Nate Sandoz with 3, and Isaac Cook with 2.

Leading the way for the Bees was Cole Bruns with 17.  Tyler Holz had 12, Wilson Wagner, 10, Nathan Hingst added 8 and McGwire Mackeprang had 7.
