An 80-year-old Creighton man was killed and two others were injured in a head-on crash near Plainview on New Year's Day.
Pierce County dispatch received a call about a two-vehicle accident on Highway 13 about two miles south of Plainview at approximately 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from Pierce County Sheriff Rick Eberhardt.
Chris L. Lerum of Creighton was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff said.
He said Lerum was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus, which collided with a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited driven by Alexis R. Hrbek of Verdigre, on Highway 13 near 538 Avenue. She and her passenger, Katherine Hrbek of Verdigre, were initially trapped inside the vehicle and were helped by Plainview Fire and Rescue.
Sheriff Eberhardt said Alexis Hrbek was transported to the Plainview Hospital by Plainview Rescue and Katherine Hrbek was transported by Lifenet Helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City.
The Pierce County Sheriff Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Plainview Police Department, Pierce Fire and Rescue, and Plainview Fire and Rescue all responded to the scene. The accident is ongoing investigation.
