The Wausa Vikings experienced a great day Wednesday in Hartington for the D-1 District track meet, taking runner-up for the girls side.

Led by Hannah Nelson and Paige Nissen, who won the triple jump and 100 meter dash, respectively, the Vikings scored 88 team points on the day. Nissen also helped send the 4x400 meter relay team to state with a first place finish.

Another star on the day for the Vikings was Thea McFarland. McFarland was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay team, along with Nissen, Ruth Johnson, and Regan Hennings, but scored a strong portion of Wausa's 88 point in individual events as well, taking second in both the 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles to qualify for the state meet.

On the boys side, Wausa scored 54 points as a team to finish in a tie for fifth. Leading the way for Wausa was Luc Bloomquist. Bloomquist won gold in the discus with a throw of 134'1". He would also take home third in the shot put.

Bloomfield also had a strong day on the boys side, finishing third with 72 points. The Bees impressed in many events, winning the 4x100 meter relay, the 400 meter dash, and sweeping the pole vault, taking first through third to get 24 points in the event alone.

For the Bee's girl team, the day ended with a seventh place finish with 46 points. The girls also completed a sweep of the pole vault to add to a strong day.

Between the two schools, 17 students will head to the state meet. The state meet begins Friday, May 20th at Omaha Burke High School.
