Under the direction of Dawn Baue, the Wausa Vikings volleyball look to improve on last year’s 3-23 record.

The good news for the Lady Vikings is they only lose three seniors from last year’s squad. A young team in 2016, all three of the team’s wins came at home, including two wins over Santee.

The Lady Vikings will take the court for the first time in 2016 at the Winside Triangular, with matches against Winside and Elkhorn Valley.

Team Profile:
Wausa did not submit a profile for the 2016 volleyball season.

The Wausa Vikings football, under the direction of second year coach Chip Bartos, will look to break their 16 game losing streak in 2016. Bartos intends to use an aggressive defense to change that luck as they look to improve on 2015’s 52 points allowed per game.

Good defense starts in the middle and Wausa has a great player in the middle in senior defensive lineman Luc Bloomquist. At 250 pounds, Bloomquist has the size teams covet in a run stopper and he has the experience as a three-year letter winner to go with his talent.

Offensively, the Vikings will be lead by fellow senior Gaige Hegge, who Bartos calls “the backbone of the offensive backfield.” Primarily a running back, Hegge will likely be moved all over the field to take advantage of his speed. Hegge is also a heavy hitter on defense and a good kicker for Wausa.

Wausa kicks off the season with a showdown against Stuart on August 26 in Stuart.

Team Profile:

WAUSA VIKINGS
Class: D2
Coach:Chip Bartos

2015 record: 0-8

2015 playoffs: N/A

Returning starters: Five on offense, five on defense

Returning letter winners: Luc Bloomquist, Sr., Gaige Hegge, Sr., John Rosberg, Jr., Alex Kleinschmeit, Jr., Tom Lundberg, Jr., Drew Munter, So., Ghatlin Hegge, So., Tyson Kaiser, So.

Players to watch: Luc Bloomquist, Gaige Hegge

Strengths: Speed out of the backfield, strong line play on both sides

Weaknesses: Inexperience

2016 Outlook: “This year, we will hang our hat on aggressive defense.” - coach Chip Bartos. Wausa is a very young team, with only two returning senior letter winners. They also have a very tough schedule, including an opening game against Stuart, a 2015 playoff team. However, expect them to pull an upset or two and break the two year winless streak.
