Verdigre Kicks Off Summer With 48th Annual Kolach Days

Verdigre’s 48th Annual Kolache Days will be held this week from June 9th through 12th.

Tuesday, June 7th:
  • Texas Hold’Em: The Verdigre Improvement Club is sponsoring Texas Hold’Em at Misty’s Soakers at 7 p.m., registration at 6 p.m.

Thursday, June 9th: 
  • Variety Show: Verdigre Community Chorus will present “Our Ole Opry” on Thursday, June 9, and Friday, June 10, at 8 p.m. each evening at the Verdigre Public School gymnasium. This lively show will entertain you with a variety of music, dance comedy. Call Wilma Vakoc at 402-668-7206 for $12 reserved tickets. General admission is available at the door: $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Verdure Community Chorus is directed by Laurel Johnson and accompanied by Nancy Pavelka.

Friday, June 10th:
  • Pool Party: Free swimming and pool party from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at the Wildwood Acres Pool. Prizes will be given throughout the party.
  • Doc Walstrom Memorial Turtle Races: 4 p.m. at Chalupnik Park. Registration begins at 3 p.m. Only Box and Painted Turtles will be raced. There will be an award given for the largest turtle.
  • Beer & Wine Tasting: Jim's Fine Wines will hold a beer and wine tasting from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the ZCBJ Hall. Admissions are $5.
  • Variety Show: 8 p.m. there will be a repeat performance by the Verdigre Community Chorus. (for more details see Thursday's schedule)
  • Royal Ball/Polka Dance Contest: 7 p.m. - 10 p.m. at the ZCBJ Hall. The Polka Dance Contest will be held at 8 p.m., with the coronation to be held at 9 p.m. The Music will be provided by the Tyndall Accordion Club.
  • Haley Zimmerer Band: street dance from 9 p.m. - 1 a.m., $5 cover charge for dance, Bohemian Lodge & Misty's Soakers

Saturday, June 11th:
  • 5 K Run-Walk & 10 K Run: Registration begins at 7 a.m. Each run/walk will begin at 8 a.m. at the Fire Hall. The $15 registration fee includes t-shirt, drink, fruit, and kolaches. Pre-register by emailing your name and shirt size to: lucym05@yahoo.com. Sponsored by Verdigre Booster Club and Verdigre Rescue Squad.
  • Mud Volleyball Tournament: The tournament will be held at the north end of the football field and will start at 9:30 a.m. An entry fee of $60 per team is required. The tournament it limited to 24 teams. Pre-register and prepay by June 6th. Contact Pat Svec at 402-394-8620 or Cole Sokol at 402-851-0501.
  • Free Zumba Class: The class will start at 10 a.m. and be located at Chalupnik Park. The class is being offered by Studio J's Fitness.
  • ATV/UTV Ride: 10 a.m. registration at Wildwood Acres. Ride begins at 11 a.m. $20 per person. Sponsored by Verdigre Fire and Rescue.
  • Kiddie Parade: Registration begins at 10 a.m. at Alpine Village or pre-register  by calling Phyllis Douglas at 402-668-2209. The theme is “1980’s Toys.” The parade begins at 11 a.m. There is no entry fee. Cash prizes. Leroy Hollmann entertains at 10 a.m. Available from 10 a.m. to noon: lunch stand with ice cream and popcorn. The Drill Team will perform after the parade.
  • Sand Dig: To immediately follow the Kiddie Parade at Alpine Village. You can dig for money and prizes!
  • Poker Run: Register at Legion Building on Main Street beginning at 11 a.m. (stands up at noon). Entry Fee: $20/singles, $25/couples, split 50/50. All vehicles welcome. Contact Rory Lisa at 402-358-0217 or Gary Jones at 402-668-2340. Sponsored by American Legion Post 259.
  • Duck Races: 1:30 p.m. (or after the Kiddie Parade). The event is sponsored by the Community Daycare. Be sure to get your ducks at Country Creations, Hair Designs or Head Quarters.
  • School Tours: Tours to be given from 1 p.m.- 3 p.m.
  • VHS Alumni Banquet: Registration and social hour from 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at the ZCBJ Hall, with banquet to begin at 6:30 p.m.
  • Street Dance: 9 p.m. - 1 a.m. Music by "Red Eye." There will be a $5 cover charge for admission to the dance.  NO COOLERS!!!

Sunday, June 12th:
  • Annual Polka Mass: 9:30 a.m. at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. All faiths are welcome to attend.
  • BBQ: 11 a.m. until gone at the Gazebo on Main Street. Serving hotdogs & hamburgers.
  • VHS Drill Team: The drill team will be performing at 1 p.m. in front of the Main Street Grandstand.
  • Grand Parade: The annual Grand Parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. Entries taken until 12:30 p.m. For more information, contact Jim Sokol at 402-668-2892. Shaded seating offered at Chalupnik Park. The parade will be followed by the raffle drawings.
  • Kolach Eating Contest: The contest will be held on Main Street immediately following the parade. No Entry Fee.
  • Polka in the Hall: There will be music by Angie and the Polka Toons from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. 

Menu/Entertainment:
  • Cozy Corner Cafe: Daily specials, Friday and Saturday night buffet. Specializing in home-cooked meals, freshly-baked pies and rolls.
  • Catholic Church: Czech Ethnic Meal Saturday 10:30 a.m. until gone. Serving: Koprova, goulash, hotdogs, sauerkraut, vdolky, kolaches, rohlicky, coffee, lemonade & tea.
  • Misty’s Soakers: Join us for a week of fun! Tuesday - Texas Hold’Em; Wednesday - Yard Beer Pong; Thursday - Horseshoes; Friday - Haley Zimmerer Band; Saturday - Red Eye; Sunday - Leroy Hollmann will perform after the parade and Shawn Cole will perform from 7 p.m. - 11 p.m. Kolach Days menu: taverns, smoked pork sandwiches and hotdogs.
  • Bohemian Lounge: Serving hamburgers, hotdogs and ceska buchta all weekend.
  • Verdigre Bakery: Open all weekend. Kolaches & other Czech favorites, doughnuts, sweet rolls. 402-668-2233
  • United Methodist Church: (serving begins Sunday at 10:30 a.m. until gone): Roast pork, fried chicken, sauerkraut, dumplings, green beans, salad bar, desserts. Kolaches sold by the dozen.
  • Bohemian One Stop: (Hwy, 14) Old-fashioned wieners, bologna, jaternice and beef jerky. Gas-Diesel-Off Sale Beer (only). Soft ice cream, pop and kolaches for sale.
  • American Legion Building: Serving ribeye sandwich plate with baked beans, chips and drink Saturday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and after the parade until 4:30 p.m.
