On Friday, May 1, the eighth grade Algebra 1 students from Verdigre left bright and early to attend the "Tech City" field trip at the SAC Museum near Ashland, Nebraska. They were joined by their teacher, Mrs. Emy Jones. They made a brief stop along the way to pick up the Clearwater-Orchard Algebra 1 class and their teacher, Mrs. Lisa Cook.
After the 4 - hour bus ride, the 20 students were welcomed to the Museum by the staff. The students began by "building" planes on electronic devices and testing them to see if they could fly. Then it was off to the planetarium where they saw the may benefits of mankind's trips to the moon. Lunch was then enjoyed under the wing of a B-36.
After lunch, students explored the different exhibits on their own. These included over 20 different airplanes, as well as 12 interactive engineering exhibits.
To finish the day, 14 of the students rode the flight simulator. Different rides included the Asteroid, Cyclone and Ice World.
The field trips at the Strategic Air & Space Museum are designed to lead students through many of the Nebraska State Education Standards in Mathematics and Science.
