Points were hard to come by Tuesday night for the Lady Cougars and Lady Pirates as they faced off in subdistrict play in Wausa.
With both teams fighting for a chance to extend their seasons, the game was close throughout. Plainview got off to an early lead, and was ahead 15-11 after one. They kept the four point lead, and NV trailed 26-22 at the break. The Lady Cougars managed to cut the lead to one at the end of the third quarter, and were only down 35-34.
Each team stepped up the defensive intensity to see only 9 points scored in the final quarter. Senior Brittany Eisenhauer of the Cougars took the lead right away putting back her own shot to make the score 36-35. The lead changed hands several times, and the game was tied with just under a minute to go. The Cougars managed to hold the ball for the last shot, but it fell short at the end of regulation. With the game tied at 39, the two teams set up for overtime.
In the additional 4 minutes, the Lady Cougars could only manage 2 points - those on a 2-footer from sophomore Emily Knust. Plainview went on to win the game, 47-41. They will face the Crofton Warriors on Thursday.
Unofficial scoring for the Cougars: Knust with 12, Eisenhauer, Dani Beaudette, and Ashley Guenther with 7, Jaylene Greeley with 5, and Jace Forker with 3.
Congratulations on your season, NV Cougars!
