Cougars Take Both Varsity Contests From Santee Thursday

The Niobrara-Verdigre Cougars won both varsity contests in Verdigre Thursday night.

The Lady Cougars erupted for 80 points in the first game to claim the win 80-33.  Leading scoring for the victors was Emily Knust with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Other scorers were Ashley Guenther with 14, Jaylene Greeley with 13, Brittany Eisenhauer with 9, Dani Beaudette and Alisa Hrbek with 8, Jace Forker 6, and Megan Cook 4.  


In the boys contest, Cade Kalkowski was 7 for 10 from the field and 8 for 9 from the charity stripe to lead the Cougars to the win with 22 points.  

The first half was tight with NV leading 25-21 at half.  The hosts proved to be too much for the Warriors in the second half, outscoring the visitors 43-25.  The final score was 68-46.

Other scorers for the Cougars were: Brady Pike with 16, Nate Sandoz with 9, Ricky Bickerstaff with 8, Christian Swalley with 6, Jacob Tuttle, Jace Fritz and Marcelis Thomas with 2, and Cauy Drobny with 1.

 Santee stats were not available.

The teams all begin NVC action Saturday - NV girls and boys and Santee boys at Tilden, and Santee girls at Elgin.
