The regular season for the 2018 golf season came to a close at the Randolph Invite yesterday.
Wausa-Bloomfield was led by Mitchell Mackeprang after shooting an opening 45. After a slow start, Mackeprang found some momentum after hitting a long birdie put on Hole 1. On his second round, Mackeprand shot 42 to finish at 87 on the day. Derek Gilliam went 47-43 for 90, Drew Munter shot 49-45 for 94 and Sage Stople went 62-56 for 118. The team finished at 389 for the day.
Zach Weber shot 90 to lead the Crofton boys after shooting 44 to open. Weber returned with a 46. Logan Leader finished two strokes behind Weber with rounds of 48 and 44 for 92. Leader found a birdie on Hole 3 on his back nine to help get him to 44. Calvin Schieffer shot 51-45 for 96, Tyler Potts went 51-50 for 101 and Levi Suing 54-48 for 102. The team finished out at 379 to put them in ninth place.
Santee's sole golfer, Mato Thomas, shot 72-62 for 134.
Creighton's Chase Largen put up five birdies on the day. His first came on opening Hole 1 then on three consecutive holes starting with Hole 9 and finishing out the day with a birdie on Hole 9 for a second time. Largen shot 38-35 for a 73 to lead the Bulldogs. Largen's 73 was enough to take second place in individuals.
One stroke behind Largen was Brady Brockhaus shooting 36-38 for a 74. Brockhaus walked away with three birdies on the day. Braxton Brockhaus also had three birdies in his round of 79. Shooting 39-40, Braxton Brockhaus landed in the number three spot for the team. Bryce Zimmerer shot 42-41 for 83 and Connor Hammer went 42-42 for 84.
Creighton took the top spot at 309 to nudge out Cedar Catholic by five strokes. Hartington's Matthew Schaeffer shot 36-34 to finish at 70 to earn the top spot in individuals. Schaeffer put up three birdies and the day's only eagle which came on Hole 6. Schaeffer drove the green and dropped the long put for Eagle.
The golfers will move into districts which will be held at the 18 hole, Fairplay Golf Course in Norfolk on May 14. Schools included in the Class C-3 district include Ainsworth, BRLD
Battle Creek, Bloomfield, Creighton, Crofton, Hartington Cedar Catholic, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Lutheran High Northeast, Niobrara/Verdigre, Norfolk Catholic, Pierce, Ponca, Wakefield and Wisner-Pilger.
The top three teams and top ten golfers will advance to state championships which will be held at the Kearney Country Club on May 22-23.
