Tonigh the Mid State Conference Basketball tournament has come to an end. The Lady Warriors of Crofton took on the Pierce Bluejays in the championship match which was held at Northeast Community College.
The Warriors struck first with Freshman Lacey Sprakel within the first minute. The Bluejays returned with two scoring possesions to take the lead. Sprakel returned to tie up the game half way through the first. Pierce ran a ten point rallied to end the quarter on top by 10.
Crofton guard Josie Sanger took two at the line with the Bluejays returning with a shot to put them at 16. Sanger hit a couple threes along with Ryan Ostermeyer with a field goal in the middle.
Crofton continued pressure on the defense followed by strong offense adding an addition two scoring possesions that yielded addition points. The warrior's 12 point rally put them back on top of the Jays.
After a few back and forth scores, Crofton held the lead until a last second shot by Pierce tied the game up at the half.
Sanger struck for two points twice in the first minute of the third to take the edge before Pierce hit its first of the half. Sprakel took one at the line followed by a big three from Sanger to put Crofton at its largest lead of the night.
Pierce combined five points to bring itself within one heading into the final quarter.
Heading into the fourth, each team alternatively dominated a quarter. Pierce struck followed by Crofton. Back and forth continued to the 2:00 minute mark where the Bluejays held the lead by one. The Jays returned another to go up by three.
Crofton returned with 0:41 remaining to get back to two down. Crofton missed a shot with the Pierce defense pulling down the rebound. Crofton forced a foul to stop the clock, but Pierce's Sidney Zimmerer hit both free throws to shut the Lady Warriors down at 45-41.
Crofton takes runner-up while Pierce finished with a Mid State Championship.
