Funeral Services for Viola M. Suhr will be 10:00 am Saturday, June 22, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1420 K Street, Lincoln, Nebraska with burial in Calvary Cemetery in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Visitation will be Friday, June 21, 2019 12:00 - 9:00 pm with Rosary at 7:00 pm at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. The family will be present at 6:00 pm. In 1935, Viola Margaret was born to William and Hilda (Clausen) Bruns on March 9th in Bloomfield, Nebraska. She was welcomed at home by two sisters, Wilma and Shirley. Viola received her education at the St. Andrew’s Catholic school, country school (District 143) and graduated from Bloomfield High School. Viola found half-time work at many local businesses. Those being the Bloomfield Creamery, Teply Hardware store, the Glanzman Bowling Lanes, the local restaurant, Anderson Jewelry store and the High School lunch room. A member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Viola held an office in the Ladies Altar Society and she also sang in the church choir for 20 years. Gaylan Leon Suhr married Viola on November 17, 1953 on a beautiful autumn day. To this union four children were born: Gregory, Kathleen, Gayle Anne and Kurtis. As time progressed, their children were married. Greg and Jenni Suhr, Kathleen and Chris Williams, Gayle and Gary Thibault, and Kurtis and Karen Suhr. Viola has eleven grandchildren: Cianne (Jeff) Hale, Jacob Pettinger, Ariel Judson, Kelly Judson, Philip Huttmann, Brendon (Leigh) Huttmann, Nathan (Cortney) Gieselman, Natalie Whitman, Holly (Sean) Howell, Logan Suhr and Ethan Suhr. Viola was blessed with eleven great grandchildren: Charles Huttmann, Madeline Huttmann, Taylor Huttmann, Jackson Huttmann, Lauren Gieselman, Emily Gieselman, Leo Whitman, Lily Whitman, Levi Whitman, Holden Howell and Finn Howell. In 1979, Viola and Gaylan moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where she was employed by the ASCS Dept of Agriculture as a technician operator of an electronic duplicating machine. Viola worked for 16 years and retired in November, 1996. Viola spent many hours sewing and developing bears, dolls and rabbits. She had a collection of dolls over the years and it became a relaxing time. Viola passed on June 6, 2019 at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska. Viola was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gaylan; parents, Bill and Hilda Bruns; sisters, Wilma Wortmann, Shirley Fink, Mary Barger Huber; brothers-in-law Gary Erickson, Marlyn Barger and Dale Suhr. She is left to mourn her four children and their husbands and wives, eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Judy) Bruns and sister Arlis Erickson; brothers-in-law Roman Wortmann, Gerald Fink, and Art Huber; sister-in-law Bonnie Suhr and many friends and relatives.
