Shirley entered her heavenly home on February 20, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Bloomfield.
Shirley was born in Cedar County on August 17, 1938, the daughter of Floyd Sr. and Cleo (True) Joslin. She attended school in Laurel and Bloomfield where she graduated high school. During high school, she was a baton twirler and member of the marching band. When she was a freshman, she started working at the Palace of Sweets.
After Shirley graduated from high school in 1957, she worked at National Indemnity in Omaha as an insurance policy rate checker.
She later moved with her parents to California and got a job at the Heartfield Womens Clothing store until Elwin asked her to follow him back to Nebraska to help him pick corn and be his wife.
Shirley was united in marriage to Elwin C. Olson on March 30, 1958. They were blessed with four children: Kevin, Kathryn, David, and Rebecca. Shirley and Elwin made their home on the farm near Wausa until moving into Bloomfield in the 90’s. In 2015, Shirley moved to the Good Samaritan Center where she spent her last years.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a stay at home farm wife for many years and worked at Dudley's Dry Cleaning doing sewing repair on uniforms from 1984 to 1986. She also worked as a CNA in the Wausa nursing home and in laundry at Good Samaritan Center in Bloomfield. The time she spent caring for her many grandchildren was so precious to her.
Shirley was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wausa where she enjoyed being a part of the Women’s Club and singing in the choir. Shirley joyfully shared God's love through song in the Easter Cantata concerts. She loved her Lord and Savior and showered His love on her family and friends.
Shirley was passionate about the art of rug making. She was thrilled to share this passion by showing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren how to weave pot-holders.
Shirley is survived by children: Kevin Olson of Stanton, Kathryn (Randy) Mundorf of Spearfish, South Dakota, David (Kathy) Olson of Bloomfield, and Rebecca (Tony) Vogel of Howells; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; brother, Gary Joslin of Rancho Cordova California; in-law’s; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of nearly 59 years, Elwin; brothers, Floyd Joslin Jr and George Joslin; daughter-in-law, Sharon Olson; and several grand and great-grandchildren.
