Funeral services for Mary Wamberg, age 83, of Wausa, Nebraska will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2019, at Evangelical Covenant Church in Wausa. Reverend Mark Habluetzel will officiate, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery in Wausa.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Brockhaus Funeral Home in Wausa is in charge of arrangements.
Mary died Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Mary Ann Wamberg was born November 23, 1935 to Adolph and Helen (Vokner) Tichy on the family farm near Niobrara. She attended rural school south of Niobrara and graduated from Niobrara High School. She sang in choir, played trumpet in the band and was a cheerleader. After graduation, she attended Wayne State College for two years and later taught in a rural school near Niobrara. Mary Ann met Dale Wamberg at Niobrara High School while she was typing a college paper in Dale’s classroom. They were married on June 25, 1956.
The couple lived in Elgin for one year before moving to Climbing Hill, Iowa where Dale served as a School Administrator for ten years and Mary Ann stayed hard at work raising the family. In 1967, the family moved back to Wausa. They bought the farm three miles north of town where Dale’s grandparents, the Nels Johnsons, had lived.
Dale and Mary Ann were blessed with six children: Stanley, Roger, Cheryl, Vicki, David, and Daniel.
Mary Ann was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church in Wausa, Nebraska. She was involved with church choir, Covenant Women, and taught Sunday School and Bible School. When her girls were younger, she was a 4-H leader.
She enjoyed decorating the house and entertaining for family gatherings. For many years Mary Ann sang in the Community Choir. She assisted Dale with his school insurance sales. She enjoyed spending time attending her children’s and grandchildren’s many activities. Even last summer Mary Ann still enjoyed going to baseball games with Dale.
Mary Ann entered her heavenly home on March 3, 2019 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dale; children Stan Wamberg of Centennial WY, Roger (Cathy) Wamberg of Wausa, Vicki (Keith) Byrkit of David City, David (Kim) Wamberg of Fullerton, and Dan (Angie) Wamberg of Wausa; grandchildren Matt Wamberg, Nathan Wamberg, Jason (Brooke) Wamberg, Kayla (Justin) Lackas, Scott (Angie) Byrkit, Kate Byrkit, Brian Wamberg, Brandon Wamberg, Dillon Wamberg, Dawson Wamberg, Alexa Wamberg; and three great-grandchildren Zoey Lackas, Cayden and Payton Wamberg; sister Janice Teadtke of Niobrara, sister-in-law Donna (Paul) Vance of Lee Summit, MO.
Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter Cheryl; daughter-in-law Jeanne Wamberg; father-in-law, Bill Wamberg; mother-in-law, Aina Wamberg; and brother-in-law Kenneth Teadtke.
