Harlan L. Barnes

Navy Veteran, and long time plumber, Harlan L. Barnes was born December 30, 1945 in Bloomfield to Leonard and Marjorie (Jessen) Barnes and died on November 27, 2017. He was baptized and confirmed at Good Shepherd Church in Lindy.
 
Harlan grew up on the family farm northwest of Lindy, attending grade school in the country school Dist. 147 and graduated from Niobrara High School in 1964.
 
Harlan served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1968. Harlan was united in marriage to Bonnie Ballinger March 20, 1971 to which this union produced his only son, Scott. They later divorced. Harlan worked in Lincoln doing drywall, farmed with his father and then went on to plumbing. He formed his own plumbing company from which he retired about 15 years ago.
 
Harlan fought a long courageous battle with cancer and passed away at the Good Samaritan Home in Millard with his loving family at his side.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Marjorie (Jessen) Barnes, grandparents Ferd and Grace Barnes, John and Frieda Jessen, numerous relatives and friends. Survivors include his son Scott (Cori), grandsons Coleton, Peyton and Keyton, sisters Donna (Don) Bourn and Shirley Greenwood, brother Larry Barnes along with many nieces and nephews.
 
An informal gathering is planned for December 1, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Fort Calhoun. A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Church in Lindy December 9 at 11:00 a.m
