Mass of Christian Burial for Gordon “Gordie” Masat, age 82, of Brunswick, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton, Nebraska. Reverend Jeremy Hans will be Celebrant, with private family burial in Brunswick Cemetery in Brunswick.
Visitation was held Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. Wake Service.
Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton, Nebraska is in charge of arrangements.
Gordie died Friday, May 24, 2019, at Plainview Manor in Plainview, Nebraska.
Gordon “Gordie” L. Masat, son of Joe and Ann (Moser) Masat, was born January 25, 1937, at Winnetoon, Nebraska. He graduated from St. Ludger Academy in Creighton, Nebraska and then served his country in the United States Navy. On May 27, 1958, Gordie was united in marriage to Joan Forbes at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview, Nebraska. Four children were born to them: Tom, Mike, Julie, and Kevin.
Gordie was a crop duster pilot, farmer, and dairy farmer throughout his lifetime. He was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Brunswick and the American Legion. Gordie was an avid fisherman but he had a great love for the game of baseball. He played, coached, or umpired baseball for over 70 years.
Gordie is survived by his children, Tom (Ellie) Masat of Plainview, Nebraska, Mike (Shelly) Masat of Brunswick, Julie (Gary) Hughes of Crofton, Nebraska, and Kevin (Krista) Masat of Brunswick; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Don Masat, Margie Lichty, Ken (Margo) Masat, Jim Masat, and Dick (Judy) Masat.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; and in-laws, Aubyn Masat, Larry Lichty, and Carolyn Masat.
