Funeral services for Willard Lovejoy, age 79, of Bloomfield, Nebraska will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Christ Memorial United Methodist Church in Bloomfield. Pastor Lynde Linde will officiate, with burial in Bloomfield City Cemetery.
Military Honors will be provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4996, American Legion Post 249, and American Legion Riders.
Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Brockhaus Funeral Home in Bloomfield is in charge of arrangements.
Willard died Friday, September 15, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society in Bloomfield.
Willard “Willy” Eugene Lovejoy was born on January 21, 1938, to Reuben and Verna (Norton) Lovejoy in Bloomfield Nebraska. He grew up on the family dairy farm milking cows, playing ball, helping with chores and living with his parents, brothers and sisters and Grandpa Charlie Lovejoy.
He was baptized on April 25, 1938, in the Methodist Church where he was a lifetime member. Willard attended grade and high school in Bloomfield graduating in 1955. In June of 1955, he enlisted in the United States Navy with Dean Rosberg on the buddy system. Was stationed near San Diego, California until being discharged in January of 1959.
He worked for Holmquist grain in Bloomfield after returning home from the service. In May of 1968, he started working for the grade school in Bloomfield as a janitor and retired in 2001. He also worked for Newton brothers bar and later the Time out Lounge starting in 1965. He moved from the family farm to Mainview apartments and later to Sunset View Assisted Living. He lived his last days at the Good Samaratin Home.
Willy spent and lived his life in Bloomfield touching many lives through the school and tending bar, enjoyed driving and spending time in his car, listening to and watching sports on radio and television, enjoyed getting together with family during the holidays, was always interested with the news Bloomfield had to offer and especially took pride in his great nephews Augustus and Oliver.
Willard is survived by a brother, James of Bloomfield; nephews and nieces, Brad and Gayleen Lovejoy of Bloomfield, Judy Mumm of LaVista, Jerry and Lisa Klein of Venice FL, Barb and Bruce Debban of Richland WA, Pat and Greg Hotovy of Lincoln, and Bryan and Pam Lovejoy of Norfolk; and many other great nieces and nephews.
Willard was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lucille (Mervin) Lance and Evelyn “Mike” (Elmer) Klein; brother, Gilbert (Marion) Lovejoy; sister-in-law, Joyce Lovejoy; and nieces, Leslie McGinnis, Kathy Fink, and Andrea True.
